The Action for Life Walking for Health SchemeWelcome to the Action for Life

5 years and still walking

The first "Lingfield Byways" Walk took place on Monday 8 January, 2007 and there were 12 walkers and three Volunteer Walk Leaders.  By Easter of that year there were 30 walkers and several more leaders.  Soon, due to the varying fitness levels of the walkers, the decision was taken to offer 3 walks at different levels:  the short walk of 1.5 to 2 miles and a long walk of around 3 miles, split into a faster-paced and a slower-paced walk.

On Monday 9 January 2012 we celebrated our Fifth Anniversary with free cakes for our 57 walkers. There are now over 100 walkers on our register including 15 Volunteer Walk Leaders.

We meet at 10 am every Monday, except the occasional Bank Holiday, at Lingfield and Dormansland Community Centre, High Street, Lingfield, RH7 6AB and new walkers are always welcome.

The Action for Life Walking for Health SchemeA guide to our walking programme

There are a variety of walks varying in length between 1.5 to 6 miles. They are mainly flat, some include slight inclines/declines and may have stiles on the route. Walkers will be encouraged to walk at a pace that suits them. All walks are led by trained volunteer walk leaders.

There’s no need to book - you just turn up!

Our seasonal walking programmes can be downloaded from the website or available at your local library, surgery, or community centre.

The 1-2 mile walks take approx 45mins to 1 hour 3-6 mile walks take approx 1-2 hours. All the walks are graded to suit the needs of the walker.

Car parking, toilet, and refreshment facilities are available.
